Just Close It!

tabs

Recently I noticed that I have a bad habit.

I will go through a Pomodoro which includes a lot of research or interacting with multiple web tools. These all end up becoming tabs in Chrome. After three or four Pomodori, I can’t find anything because I have too many tabs open. This causes frustration and creates multi-tasking situations, even when I’m focusing.

The tabs actual create visual clutter despite my attempts to find clarity.

So, today I instituted a rule … when I’m done with a tab – I close it.

That’s it. It’s pretty much that simple.

    Or you can use
tab stacking for different tasks or pomodors when you need to go back to it.

  3. Hi Jim,

I used to run into tab trouble, too. You know it’s really bad when you have separate windows open, each with multiple tabs in them. ;-)

But separating tabs in windows has actually been helpful sometimes. That way, I can keep research projects separate from each other, and use the Restore function when I move between locations to get back to what I was doing.

Mostely I don’t do this anymore, though …

Personally I use different browser for different task. If it’s personal stuff most of the time is Chrome. If it’s a webdev tast it’s Firefox. If it’s home-banking or “institutional” test & showcase is Safari. If it’s some open-source configuration tool day it’s Camino. Then I have also Stainless to do quick & not to remember anymore browsing.

Only Chrome and Firefox ends up having a dozen of tabs open, in the “backlog” kanban philosophy. The rest starts fresh everytime I launch them.
